Morphotype amAc ("Acaulospora")

distribution in root cortex
both inner and outer
auxiliary cells
absent
hyphae at entry point
hyphae often prominently coiled, but usually not well visible (see below), hyphae at entry point often thicker than the runner hyphae
intraradical hyphae
parallel, often thinnger than those near entry point; diameter 2 - 3 um, usually stain faintly
arbuscules
numerous for some subtypes of amAc (see below), fill completely the cells ("brick-like" appearance)
vesicles
rarely seen, usually near entry point, 50 - 80 um long, often irregularly shaped

This type probably includes two or more different "Acaulospora"-like types in Achillea roots:
First, the type with always (albeit) weekly visible hyphal coils at entry points and intracellular vesicles formed nearby. This type is documented by the following image (where the colony is well stained this time; I cannot say whether the stainability has any taxonomic value here):

The other type is represented mainly by the prominent, brick-like arbuscules. Sometimes smooth, not much abundant hyphae are seen but I've never seen any connection of those structures to any kind of entry-point structures.

The arbuscules on this slide are interesting by their flat appearance.
